I got several decor items from Delhi ,
decked up my home this week
sharing pics with you all
First pic is of the handpainted Ganehsa on Canvas
have stuck the decor strings with help of Blue tac in between the pics

Second pic is of the corner table kept near the window

Third pic is of the corner shelf kept at the entrance
have stuck golden beaded strings on the adjacent wall

Fourth pic is of the kitchen entrance ,
bandhanwar on top is from Ahmedabad,gift from my mother
side string i got from Chandni Chowk

Fifth pic is of the entrance

pot is from deepawali mela delhi,and the decor on the entrance door from delhi.
lemon and green chili hanging is gift from my sis,.:-)

Festive Decor for Deepawali

I know its insane to do such things when theres no time
specially when i am so busy cleaning,packing and doing other chores
but still i managed to do this festive decor with whatever i had

just to feel festive and good,..
For the deepawali decor

handpainted diyas
dupatta
flowers
ganesha idol
tea lights
For the diyas

i painted the diyas with golden acrylic acolour
then decked it up with silver glitter pen
and pink paint glue pen
left them for drying overnight
For the deepawali hamper for friends

kept some candles,chocolate and handpainted diyas in a basket ;-)

After a long time i managed to read some books :-) and they all were good

Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Morgan - i just love cupcakes so if you guys love cupcakes,do read this one ,this book is about Issy Randall whose childhood is spent in her Grandpas bakery ,stuck in a dull city job she decides to open her own cafe ,this one is how about she opens her own cupcake cafe with help of her friends and ya theres some recipes too which would leave you drooling or maybe inspire you to bake your own cupcakes,..;-)
Queen of Dreams by Chitra Divakurani this one is about Rakhi who is divorcee and single mother staying in newyork and about her mother who can interpret dream .Rakhi longs for her mothers love who is in her own world of dreams.Rakhi comes to know about her mothers life through her journals after her death,and how her journals bring new hope in her life when september 11 attacks happen.This one is about food too ,theres a chai shop owned by Rakhi and her friend which in some time gets converted into a snacks bar by Rakhis father,this one is about finding love in unexpected situations and about lifes blessings,.

how i did
for the rangoli have used rangoli sieve
arranged rose petals all around
and some tea lights .
for the side

in a glass bowl have kept floating lotus
and sides flowers are kept
this is how it looked all together

Book i read - A Disobedient Girl

A disobedient girl written by Ru Freeman is

story of Latha and Biso who are the protagonist of the books,while Biso runs away from her husband with her childrensfor a better life in the hills ,Latha is struggling to carve a niche for herself in the rich mans house where she works as a servant,Latha longs for simple things like soap,lime juice which she is deprived but still somehow she manages to fulfil her wishes,What happens when Biso boards the train changes her life and her childrens too,story is set in coastal town of Srilanka and Colombo .I had read about Sambol before but while reading this book i got inspired to prepare to some for myself too inspired by Latha who feeds her children rice,onion sambol and dried fish most of the time and thats what she packes in banana leaves when she flees from her home.

DIY - Cupcake Box

This weekend i had to gift cupcakes to my friend

for the cupcake box
cardboard box(i recycled which i had at home )
aluminium foil
cardboard strips
silver straw for decoration
transparent sheet to cover

how i did
place two cardboard strips to create partition
line with aluminium foil
place the silver straw
place the cupcakes in the space created by the partition
cover with transparent sheet.

Book i read this week

The Marraige Bureau for Rich People - by Farhad Zama
The story is set in coastal town Visakhapatnam which is major sea port on the south east coast of India.The main characters are Mr Ali. who owns the marraige bureau ,his son Farhan who works for various NGOs and Aruna who works as assistant at the marraige bureau.Book starts with the opening of the Marraige Bureau,in the midst Farhad takes us to attend Muslim wedding and the book ends with Hindu wedding with vivid description of clothes,food and custom.While reading the book i felt as if i am attending the wedding;-)
this one is light one perfect for weekend read,.;-)

Last week read these two awesome books

The Bastard of Istanbul by Elif Shafaq - story is set in Istanbul ,and each chapter starts with a ingredient like cinnamon,cardamom,truly luved this book,vivid description of food,culture ,lifestyle .Story has two main characters Asya and Armanoush,while Asya is born and brought up in Istanbul ,Armanoush is Armenian American.What happens when they meet ,how their belief change this is what the book is about,..
Recipe for Life by Nicky Pellegrino - " I think cooking is the most intimate thing you can do for someone ,'he said softly .'I make something for you with my hands and hen you put it inside your body.What could be more intimate thant that ?' Quote from the book :-)
this one is again about women and for women,if you guys luv food specially italian then you have to read this book,while reading this book i felt as if i was in Villa Rosa at Triento.
some of the quotes which were really inspiring from the book Recipes for Life
-Your time is limited so dont waste it living someone else's life .
-The thing about working a lot is that you never have a chance to worry about things that have happened or things that are going to happen.It forces you to live in the moment.

Crispy Thai Pancake and some books which i read

How does it feel when we taste something new which make us crave for it more
Thats how i felt when i had Thai Pancake known as Khanom Bueang for the first time
Crispy pancake filled with Coconut Cream and lacy coconut filling
perfect with my favourite Coffee

There are some books too which i read past week

The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak is a story of woman whose lifes changes after reading a manuscript which she has to edit.Before reading the book she was busy in her own small life .I luved the way the story unfolds and and all the forty rules of Sham the Tambriz were truly inspiring,this book also gave me insight about Sufism and introduced me to Rumi .13th century sufi poet.
The Burnt Shadow by Kamila Shamsie is saga of a young Japanese woman whose life changes after the Nagasaki bombing ,how she comes to India and then to Pakistan and finally to United States.Book has to be read for the detailed description of the culture of different countries and how the tragedies and event shape the characters .
Beneath a Marble Sky by John Shors is mesmerising tale of Jahanara Shahjahans daughter ,entwined in her own life she tells the event which took place while Taj Mahal was being built.

Its been so long since i read ,sipped cofee
relaxed and thought about life
and thats what i did this weekend
this mug of coffee reminds me of my sis
and the cold Delhi nights

we would be lost deep in conversation
when suddenly she would be seen
with a mug in her hand and a spoon
and our conversation would continue
she would continue beating
and then would be back again
with a mug of coffee
now when we both are busy
in our own life
we just have these sweet
memories to cherish .

DIY- Cookie template from Cardboard

I wanted to try this since a long time
so today noon finally i did this
DIY - Cookie Template
Things needed
Cardboard ( i recycled cardboard from carton )
pencil
scissors
How i did
draw the design on the cardboard
cut it out and keep aside

T o use as cookie cutter
lightly flour the cardboard template on one side
place it on the rolled out dough
with a sharp knife cut out the shape
and keep on plate

keep in fridge for few minutes and bake.

Weekend wrap up 26 - Wall Decor with recycled craft

This week i didnt do much
just decluttered my sons room
and decorated his room wall
with some simple craft

which i had helped him do
during his winter break .
How i did
For this craft have recycled phone bill papers and cardboard from cartons
the flower is done with pistachio shells i made him colour the shells and then helped him in sticking.

Some musings,bit of cooking and a simple craft

life cant be more beautiful than this
this is what i felt when i was waiting for my son at the bus stop,sometimes i feel so blessed to feel all this -)

Last weekend i finally prepared something from my herb garden,
simple salad with purple basil leaves and cottage cheese
recipe is blogged here

took my son to library ,just like me he is fond of reading too ,
and after the reading session we both shared Tiramisu

Converted this empty Jam bottle into tealight holder

How i did- scraped the label from the jar,stuck the decorative scrap paper
did some simple design with glitter
kept some shells inside and a tealight .

Dream fulfilled - My own Herb Garden

When i came to Singapore ,i had a dream of having my own small herb garden ,

months passed ,i didnt do anything about it ,reason i didnt know anything about gardening,so the dream was there but from my side no effort,then one evening i got a mail for exchange of link and in return i was getting 10 packs of grow your own herb seeds,

i could see my dream turning into reality,i immediately said yes,got the packet through mail ,and last month on 23th i sowed some seeds,i have shared the pic here ,

today its been a month and my plants are a month old.I am happy that i have my own small kitchen garden will be updating the pics each month

Handpainted tealight holder

then one evening i thought of adding some life to it
i painted the base colour red
and did some design with green colour
now i use this for tea lights
to place in front of God and Goddess.

things needed
rice flour
rangoli colour pink and orange
flowers
sieve
newspaper
tealights
Preparation
clean the area with wet cloth
Procedure
make boundary with help of newspaper
inside the boundary sieve rice flour to cover the area
make pattern with help of coloured rangoli powder
add flower petals to enhance the effect
on the sides i have kept brass diya
and in the middle of rangoli kept lighted tealights.

when i was in Delhi plastic bags were banned and jute bags were in for shoppin but still most of the shopkeepers kept polythene as shopped were too lazy to get their own i really dont understand this after all government had passed this rule for benefit of us,.isnt it?
this is how i did
today i jazzed up this jute bag which had company name written on it.

have painted some alphabets just left ARTIS and with help of straight stich made T.
have attached star and a small bell,added some sequins ,..thats all.
This bag can be used for grocery shopping,for library or to just keep my craft material.

Cupcake Tanktop to match the accessories

Most of the time we feel that day by day we are getting older ,we dont have any right to do certain things like wear cute clothes and feel good,as we have passed that age,even i used to feel that way then one fine day this realization dawned on me that why to think we are getting old and feel old after all this is just one life which we have to live as if today is the last day,without wasting even a second,..:-)

Coming back to todays post i bought this cute cupcake necklace and bracelet for myself,.the day i bought i had promised myself that i will paint a top to match the accessories ,..today noon when Advay was busy with his toys i took out my craft material and created this for myself,..looks cute isnt it,.;-)

I have tried my best to match with the cupcake charm in the bracelet above .
To create this things needed
tank top white colour
fabric colour pink,yellow and brown
brush
pencil
Procedure
draw a rough outline on a paper
draw the same on tshirt
keep a cardboard underneath the surface to be painted
colour with fabric colour.

thats all cute cupcake tank top is ready to be worn,.:-)

Glimpse of the coziest corner of my home

I bet everyone has some place special in their home where they feel good ,comfy and cozy,:-) that space is the much needed space where they can just sit back and relax and take a break for few minutes,or do things which they like to do the most isnt it,.?

I write my blog post of the time in the night before going to sleep,this is the space where i sit back,relax ,with cup of cofee or hot chocolate with marshmallows and do things which i like to do be it blogging,reading book ,listening to music be it anything,

On the corner table i have Ganesha statues which gives me immense strength
pot pourri of rose in a small bowl which freshens me up
sunflowers which brightens me and
a tealight holder

,was bit wary about how it would look but was quiet satisfied with the finished tshirt,

this one is simple one done with sequins,and fabric water colour,huh it feels so good to paint and create something new everytime,doing this craft always cheers me up even though if i am doing this in the middle of the night...;-) i am with few more tshirts will do them soon,..till thn take care ad hapy bloggin and ya stay tuned guys,..;-)

today morning while planning the day ahead i thought of this blog,i know its been so long since i published anything here,so had to do something to revive this space of mine,went through my stock of craft material and finally came up with this pouch,keeping the valentines day spirit in mind i created this pouch thats why u guys cee red heart done with felt and bordered with sequins.I did the edges of the pouch with blanket stitch and attached the heart to the pouch the same way,:-)

Vanis RAKHI EVENT OF BLOGOSPHERE inspired me to create rakhis,..this is the first time i tried making rakhis on my own,..yesterday got felt material to be used as base other things i already had,..i started with rakhi making at around 1:00am and finished by 4 ,.thought of publishing this post at 4 but i was too tired,..so doing now,..while making rakhi i missed my younger brother too who is no more now,.we celebrated just one rakshabandhan together as he died when he was just one and a half yr old,.he was suffering from cancer,..couldnt control my tears while making rakhi...and could understand pain of my parents more now ,,.coming 15th august will be his 18th death anniversary,..this post is dedicated to him,..i dont ahve much memories of him,..he was there with us for really short time,..miss him lotz thats wht i can say,,,

MY ENTRIES IN THIS FIRST RAKHI HAVE USED YELLOW COLOUR FELT CLOTH AS BASE,WITH HELP OF SEQUINS,BEADS AND SILVER THREAD HAVE MADE SWASTIK AND FOR THE TIEING RIBBONS I HAVE USED EMBROIDERY THREAD AND WOODEN BEADS.

IN THE SECOND IMAGE BELOW I HAVE DONE THE SAME PROCEDURE AS ABOVE ,I TRIED MAKING KALASH BUT COULDNT GET THE SHAPE PROPERLY...

IN THE PIC BELOW I HAVE USED WOODEN BEADS TO DESIGN THE RAKHI AND EMBRODERY THREAD TOO ,OTHER PROCEDURE IS SAME AS MENTIONED ABOVE.

Painting with dried leaf-tutorial

Lakshmis stem event inspired me to create some thing with dried leaf

,..so i tried painting with leaf on tshirt for the first time,..

i used block paint colours..but i guess fabric paint can be used too,.i applied the colour on the sponge with help of spreader,..pressed the leaf on the pianted area and then pressed the same leaf hard on the tshirt,,,and wow,.i got beautiful impression of the leaf on the tank top,

..once done with leaf impressions,..i did stem stich all along the borders of the leaf

and finally did sequin embroidery on the midline,

..any pattern can be tried with leaf ,,,this is the simplest which i coukd get in my mind when i was doing

,..i couldnt click pic when i was dng leaf impression,..next time i do i will sure take,..hope this tutorial was helpful to u all,..if u all try painting with leaf ,..do share,..will be back with more,,.:-)

STEM EVENT SERIES PART TWO WITH AWARDS AND MEME

Stem event is still on ,..so after doing two tshirts which i have published earlier i thought of doing something else with the stem,..i had a photo frame,.so tried decorating with a small twig,i i used fabric paint as colour medium,acrylic paint can be used too,once done i tried making cards on plain printer paper,..made Ganesha face on one ,and on the other one simple wheel,..u can see in the pics,..that the lines are not uniform,,cause i have used twig ,,but it sure gives nice effect to the paintings,...once done with the cards i wanted to try more,i did all this the same night cause advay had slept early that day,..i had a file folder with medicines name on it,..i covered the folder with white paper and tried making traditional Indian woman ..with the same twig,..used fabric paint again,...once done,.i tried again on tshirt ,..i did the out line of the quote"FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND WISHES TODAY SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO SAY THAT I WISH I DID THAT"with the stem and filled in colour with paint brush,..read this quote in some quote book,..and since that day thought of doing this on tshirt...tanp top was old one,so the effect has not come that good,...hve done two more tshirts which i will be posting in the next post,..these were done long back,..but as i was busy with other things...couldnt publish them

When i heard about this event started by Lakshmi of taste of mysore...i knew what i was going to make,,,the first t shirt which i have done,gives the look of bandhej work,..cause i used the blunt end of the dried stem,and done bead work on the part where i have worked with stem,,i used block paint colour,,.the other design on the tshirt i have done with blocks

the other tshirt i did today,,while my son was playing..couldnt do much on this tshirt,have used pointed end of the stem to write,,on the tshirt,,,and believe me could write very easily,,hve used fabric paint for this work,,plannin to use this stem more often,..

thanks Lakshmi for hosting this event or i wouldnt have known that i can paint and write with dried stem too

presenting my tools,,without which i cant work,..i havent captured all of them,..these pics will act like memoirs for me too,..as within few months i will be leaving this place so looking at these pics,..in future will really make me happy and sad too,..this is the same study table where i had kept my unopend colours,...for a year,..feel so bad that i wasted a year dng nothing,..now when i am busy with blogging,tshirt painting,..creating comicstrip,..i really feel that each minute is precious,..dng household chores,managing advay and pursuing hobby at the same time is not easy,..but still i manage to somehow,..for which i am realy happy..guess its because of these hobbies that i feel more confident,independent and busy.,,any ya my mind which keeps on running here and there,,,stays at one decent place...:-)hpe u enjoy these,..

created this personalised gift box out of shoe box which was of no use,..have used water colour to decorate the box

this design is on the lid

have done decorative calligraphy on top and border calligrapgy on the sides

this design is on the side of the lid and the front side of the box,...

and finally on the back of the box have done decorative calligraphy and designed it specially with mango design for the mango mantharam hosted by mahanandi...will be sending this box for the event

i remember it was in january 08,..i was searching job that time,,,in singapore,..but no result,..one day i was sitting near the study table,,and thinking what to do,..because i dont like sitting idle,..the drawer of study table was open and i saw the fabric colours box,,brand new one,,still unopened,,,i had new brushes too..i took out my sons tshirt ,,it was plain white,..and started using my imagination to paint on it..this was in january and now its april,,,,since then i havent stopped,..and dont want to...
